Martial arts in Cathorna

General notes

1. Martial DCV
Martial arts-based DCV bonuses don’t help versus ranged attacks. Your bonus DCV while Defensive striking or martial dodging does not help you avoid arrows, slings or other non-HTH attacks

2. Scale and physiology
Martial arts work only against creatures up to twice your height or down to half your height. This may change with experience, but for now, no martial throwing giants. Extra damage is cool (techniques permitting more powerful blows), but not the OCV/DCV bonuses. This is unlikely to be an issue for some time; all the humanoid races right up to smaller trolls fall inside this range. But I don’t want you martial flipping a wolverine or a treant.
Your opponent must be vaguely human-shaped. You cannot martial-wrestle blobs, jellies, fish, bats, spiders or other non-bipedal, non-bilaterally symmetric creatures. Some things will work against them, for instance I would allow an unarmed block manoeuvre against a claw swipe from a grass cat, but others will not. I would NOT allow an unarmed block against a bite attack from the same animal; them damage mechanism is not what your skills were designed to counter. If you’re not sure and want to know before you press on into the glaarg lair, please ask, as refusal on contact may offend.
