The Orphans of Cathorna
Leader of Cathorna's militia
Leader and organiser of the village militia, 1596-born year old Dorrigan is an adventurer, mercenary and one-time soldier of Arthedain. He claims to have Dunedain blood. At least 6’6 tall and powerfully built, he is as imposing a figure as Palanto was in his day, and is the village’s best swordsman. He never moves without a short sword at the least, and in times of trouble carries a five foot greatsword and heavy crossbow. He owns one of the few suits of armour, a steel breastplate and greaves emblazoned with crossed burning swords, although the art is somewhat faded. Some believe he is possessed of a degree of mystic knowledge, and goes into battle protected by low level enchantments.
He makes his living as a builder in times of peace, but his principal responsibility is organising the village militia. He sets watch rosters, plans and runs training, leads and organises patrols when warranted and generally takes full responsibility for defence. During the Ogre raids of 1638, he is said to have taken a stand at the gatehouse after the remainder of the militia had fallen, single handedly killing five ogres and routing the attack. The skulls of his enemies line the path to the door of his cottage. His wife Janis is a tall beautiful blonde Northwoman who runs with First Skirmish. They have three children: a strong and independent daughter Ena (1629), the aloof and distant boy Cuvain (1631), the militia’s youngest member, and 1633-born Setaas, a quiet and somewhat disinterested boy.
